STAT reports the AMA received several “furious tweets” on Twitter in response to the endorsement and 3,600-plus physicians signed an open letter published online titled “The AMA Does Not Speak For Us.” The Clinician Action Network started the letter.
The National Physicians Alliance also released a statement opposing the nomination of Dr. Price due to his efforts to repeal the ACA while he served in the U.S. Senate. “We are dismayed that other large physician organizations have endorsed Dr. Price without consideration of the harm his policies would inflict on our collective patients,” the letter stated.
But Dr. Price, an orthopedic surgeon by training, has received endorsements from other physician organizations. The American Hospital Association and American Medical Colleges have issued statements in support of the nomination.
