PhyMed names Dr. Sam Nussbaum to board: 8 key notes

PhyMed Healthcare Group appointed endocrinologist Sam Nussbaum, MD, to its board.

Here are eight key notes:

1. Physician-led PhyMed Healthcare Group offers anesthesia and pain management services.

2. Dr. Nussbaum has extensive experience in population health, quality, health outcomes, care management, data analytics, provider contracting as well as medical and pharmacy policy.

3. He serves as member of HHS' Learning and Action Network's guiding committee, helping establish alternate payment models to improve patient-centered care and better manage healthcare spending.

4. Dr. Nussbaum is also a senior fellow at the USC Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics in Los Angeles.

5. He most recently served as executive vice president of clinical health policy as well as CMO for Indianapolis-based Anthem.

6. While at Anthem, Dr. Nussbaum oversaw more than $100 billion in annual healthcare expenditures, focused on care and disease management, health improvement and provider network contracting.

7. Prior to his tenure at Anthem, Dr. Nussbaum served as executive vice president of medical affairs and system integration for St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare.

8. He also previously served as a Harvard Medical School professor and a physician at Massachusetts General Hospital, both located in Boston.
