Researchers presented the data at the European Obesity Summit in Gothenburg, Sweden, from June 1 to June 4.
For the study, 34 patients swallowed one Elipse balloon device, which was filled with 550ml of filling fluid. Allurion designed each balloon to remain in the stomach for four months and then be excreted naturally. The 34 participants had a mean BMI of 34.4 kg/m2.
Here are four things to know:
1. At four months, the mean weight loss was 10 kg or 22 pounds approximately.
2. The total body weight loss percentage was 9.5 percent, and excess weight loss percentage was 37.2 percent.
3. The study also shows improvements in triglycerides and levels of bad cholesterol.
4. Around 90 percent of study participants reported satisfaction with the procedure.
