Here are five points:
1. The group said one in four physicians are at risk of having their Medicare payments cut for problems outside the physician’s control.
2. In a letter, the AMA said the payment system does not promote transparency and is full of errors and obstacles causing physicians to not trust the program.
3. On Feb. 16, CMS said the agency is working to simplify quality measures, but the AMA countered CMS has failed to respond and proceed as the agency promised.
4. CMS gave physicians a month extension to appeal penalties after facing criticism from physician groups. The AMA said the month extension did not provide ample time.
5. The AMA and 44 other national physician organizations wrote to the CMS saying physicians were being penalized as a result of government errors and data transition issues.
