Here are nine takeaways:

1. Donald Trump said his reforms are “simply a place to start” and also aim to get rid of state barriers inhibiting payers from selling insurance across state lines.

2. The reform also would make individual health insurance premium payments fully tax deductible.

3. Although Mr. Trump indicated he was in favor of the ACA mandate which requires all Americans to have health insurance, he now said he plans to eliminate the ACA individual mandate.

4. Although he has reportedly said all Americans should be covered, his reform plan does not mention Mr. Trump’s call for every American to have insurance.

5. Rather, Mr. Trump’s plan relies on conservative ideals such as converting Medicaid into a program seeking to “eliminate fraud, waste and abuse to preserve our precious resources.”

6. In the past, Mr. Trump said he would make deals with hospitals to ensure Americans who cannot afford health insurance are covered. However, his latest reform plan does not discuss this plan, but suggests he will work to decrease the number of people needing programs such as Medicaid.

7. Mr. Trump brought the immigration issue to the center of healthcare by saying if our nation enforced the immigration laws, the escalating burden of healthcare costs would lessen on state and local governments.

8. His plans also seek a mandate for price transparency, allowing customers to shop around for the best prices for various procedures.

9. He also plans to get rid of the barriers that make it difficult for overseas drugs to make their way into the United States.
