A California HealthCare Foundation report found while digital healthcare possesses the capability to enhance care among low-income Americans, it should understand the safety net population’s needs to be effective, according to MedCity News.

1. Individuals in the safety net respond to email as well as patient portals, especially if the medium uses their native language.
 
2. The report found apps that combine healthcare and social services may better serve the safety-net population.

3. Various digital health apps such as HealthCrowd. Text4Baby, Healthify, Omada Health, Proteus Digital Health and Project ECO have had success meeting the needs of the safety-net population.

4. The report advised digital health companies against “shiny new things.” The report cited Aman Bhandari, exectuvie director of data science and insights at Merck, who said, “The new sexy is scaling what can work. What if Google worked with the American Public Health Association?”
