Here are five key notes:

1. Dr. DeBry performed the procedure at Box Canyon Surgery Center in Las Vegas on an 84-year-old patient with age-related macular degeneration.

2. The CentraSight program is a patient care program that includes implanting a tiny telescope into the patient’s eye. The telescope is an FDA-approved implant and designed to improve visual acuity by reducing the impact of the central vision blind spot caused by age-related macular degeneration.

3. The telescope implant’s costs and associated visits are part of the treatment program for Medicare-eligible patients.

4. The telescope is smaller than a pea and can magnify images that normally aren’t seen with central vision. The images are magnified and projected to the healthy portion of the retina.

5. There are 15 million Americans affected by age-related macular degeneration and that’s expected to double with the rapid aging of the U.S. population.
