GI physician leader to know: Dr. Kenneth Wang of Mayo Clinic

Kenneth K. Wang, MD, is the director of the Advanced Endoscopy Group and Esophageal Neoplasia Clinic at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He is also a professor of medicine. He is a past president of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He also developed and launched the ASGE’s first website in 1994. He also serves as chair of the World Organisation of Digestive Endoscopy’s Guidelines Committee.

Dr. Kang is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He has served on numerous National Institutes of Health panels. He was also appointed to the National Commission on Digestive Diseases in the Gastrointestinal Neoplasia section. He is currently the principal investigator on two investigator-initiated NIH grants. He previously served as associate editor of the American Journal of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Kang’s clinical interests include laser therapy, Barrett’s esophagus, esophageal cancer, photodynamic therapy, endoscopic ultrasonography, gastrointestinal bleeding and laser confocal microscopy.

Dr. Kang earned his medical degree at Wayne State University in Detroit and completed his residency and fellowship at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine/Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.
