1. The 55-year old physician was convicted of accepting bribes in exchange for test referrals.
2. Dr. DelPiano must serve a year of supervised release after his time in prison.
3. He was fined $10,000 and must forfeit $207,500 as part of his plea agreement.
4. The bribery scheme was operated by Biodiagnostic Laboratory Services of Parsippany. Twenty-six physicians have entered guilty pleas in connection to the scheme.
5. The scheme resulted in payments worth $100 million to Biodiagnostic Laboratory Services from Medicare and several private insurance companies. Thus far, $11 million has been recovered through forfeiture.
6. Dr. DelPiano was paid $2,300 each month for referring patient blood specimens to BLS.
7. His referrals generated approximately $1.7 million in lab business for BLA.
8. Dr. DelPiano received a total $189,175 for his referrals.
