Researchers examined a population of 37,077 patients 50 or older scheduled to undergo a colonoscopy. Trained patient navigators explained bowel preparation, confirmed appointments and ensured patients had an escort to their appointments.
Of the entire patient group, 84.2 percent underwent their colonoscopies. Adherence rate for all races was 83 percent or greater, with a less than 5 percent difference between races.
