Mr. Halamka has said he doesn’t think healthcare organizations will be ready for ICD-10 by October with the additional burdens of the Affordable Care Act, Meaningful Use stage 2 and the HIPAA Omnibus Rule.
However, other industry professionals believe another delay would only encourage providers and payers to stop their work on the code set switch instead of increasing readiness.
The lack of healthcare.gov’s readiness has also created a credibility problem for CMS.
