Payers May Struggle to Promptly Pay Claims

Many payers are not prepared for the impact the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and ICD-10 will have on their ability to pay claims on time, according to a Dotmed report.

A survey conducted by Enkata found 53 percent of payers expect claim volumes to greatly increase in the next two years, but on 26 percent plan to improve auto-adjudication rates. About 80 percent of payers also do not plan to increase the number of people processing claims.

However, 86 percent of payers said they are making changes in preparation for ICD-10.
