NIH Grants Medical College of Wisconsin $2M to Study GERD

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases of the National Institute of Health has granted the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee a $2 million, three-year grant for the study of the brain’s role in gastroesophageal reflux disease, according to a Wauwatosa Now report.

Reza Shaker, MD, MCW’s Joseph E. Geenen professor and chair of gastroenterology and director of the Digestive Disease Center, is the primary investigator of the grant-funded study.

Gastroenterologists, neurophysiologists, molecular biologists, neurologists and biophysicists will collaborate during the study.
