Q: How will this acquisition be beneficial for both Surgical Care Affiliates and Health Inventures?

Ben Jacobs: We are excited about the potential for the physician and health system partners of the combined company to be able to work with a broader team and access a scaled platform dedicated to helping partnerships deliver high quality care at a lower cost.

Q: What updates and advantages should Health Inventures centers expect to see as a result of the acquisition, if any?

BJ: These centers will have an opportunity to consider the full array of SCA services, such as our clinical tool kits, case profitability platform, market growth tools and our S4 (which typically saves centers 20 percent on their supply costs).

Q: What are your goals for SCA development in the future and how does this acquisition fit into the company strategy?

BJ: SCA’s vision is to be the partner of choice for surgical care. We will continue to cultivate new partnerships with leading health systems and physicians nationwide, and with Health Inventures employing a similar strategy, the combination of SCA and Health Inventures makes for a great fit.

Q: Where do you expect to see the biggest opportunity for SCA development in the future?

BJ: Surgery accounts for nearly 30 percent of the healthcare spend in the United States. As we continue to shift towards payment structures that reward high quality care at a lower cost, health systems are increasingly seeking to develop a network of ASCs to provide outpatient surgical services. With 40 health system partnerships across the country, we believe SCA is uniquely positioned to assist health systems with their outpatient surgery strategy, and to lead in the development and operation of their outpatient surgical facilities.
