White River VA Medical's Drs. Eric R. Henderson and Florian Schroeck win career development awards: 5 things to know

Orthopedic surgeon Eric R. Henderson, MD, and urologist Florian Schroeck, MD, both won Veterans Administration New England Career Development Awards.

Here are five things to know:

1. These career development awards increase salaries, which allow winners to strengthen their careers as clinician-investigators.

2. Orthopedic Section Chief at the White River Junction VA hospital, Dr. Henderson is also an assistant professor at Dartmouth's Geisel School of Medicine.

3. With the help of his award, Dr. Henderson plans to look into the need for Shared Decision Making for Veterans with hip and knee osteoarthritis.

4. Urology Section Chief as the White River Junction VA Medical Center, Dr. Schroeck is also an assistant professor The Dartmouth Institute and Geisel School of Medicine.

5. Dr. Schroeck plans to develop natural language processing algorithms to abstract histology, stage and grade from full text bladder cancer pathology reports.

Chair of Surgery Robert Zwolak, MD, PhD, said that "this support will help our surgeons measure and improve the care we provide to Veterans both locals and across the nation."
