Dr. Imoh Okon heads to Johannesburg for Healthcare Innovation Summit: 5 key notes

Imoh Okon, PhD, an assistant professor at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at Georgia State University in Atlanta, will attend the "African Innovator Round Tables: Healthcare Innovation Summit" in August.

Here are five key notes:

1. The theme of the summit is "Transforming Healthcare with Technology." Dr. Okon will speak to the topic of technology and cancer care.

2. Dr. Okon's oncology research involves ovarian, endometrial, breast and lung cancers, with a focus on the causes of malignant cell transformations. His research also extends to include cardiometabolic conditions like obesity and diabetes.

3. A member of the Emerging Leaders Network in Atlanta and author of Winning the Fight against CANCER: a Layman's Guide, Dr. Okon received his doctorate decree in oncology from Imperial College London.

4. Dr. Okon created a "drug-resistant" test kit, which measures biomarkers that associate with cellular processes that become perturbed during the onset of drug resistance.

5. He has worked in the pharmaceutical industry in the U.K.
