New cases of West Nile found in Oklahoma: 5 things to know

Two more Oklahoma residents contracted the West Nile virus, according to NewsOK.

Here are five things to know:

1. The two recent cases bring the state total to six cases since June.

2. The residents were both aged between 50 and 64 years old. The genders were not provided for privacy reasons.

3. Several factors may impact the severity of the upcoming West Nile season. The West Nile season typically runs from July through October in Oklahoma.

4. The Culex species of mosquitoes, primary carriers of the virus, are set to increase in numbers during mid- to late-summer due to peaks in temperature and dry weather conditions.

5. West Nile's initial outbreak in Oklahoma occurred in the early 2000s. Since then, there have been outbreaks in 2003, 2007 and 2012.
