Researchers surveyed healthcare professionals in five Swiss hospitals on safety climate and the likelihood they would speak up about poor hand hygiene practices described in a vignette.
Here are the key findings:
1. Healthcare professionals were more likely to speak up if risk to patients was high, and if they had voiced concerns in the past.
2. Senior or chief doctors were the most likely to speak up.
3. Nurses in training were the least likely to speak up.
