Here are four things to know about the quality measures:

1. Reports for 2013 allow patients to compare quality ratings for up to five hospitals or health topic(s).

2. Quality measures are produced after evaluating patient discharges from area hospitals.

3. According to a release, Virginia hospitals are performing better than national averages.

4. The new quality of care measures allow the public to learn about healthcare conditions, treatment and management at various area hospitals.
