UMCP opens new bariatric medical center — 5 points

The University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro in Middlesex County, N.J., has opened a new bariatric surgery center, according to MyCentralJersey.com.

Here are five points:

1. The Center for Bariatric Surgery and Metabolic Medicine will offer patients with weight-related concerns a single location to access the services they need to better manage their health and improve their quality of life.

2. Located in the Medical Arts Pavilion, adjacent to UMCP, the Center offers treatment options that range from comprehensive, medically supervised weight management to a complete array of weight-loss surgeries.

3. There are three Princeton Medicine employed surgeons affiliated with the center:

  • Robert E. Brolin, MD, co-medical director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at UMCP and former president of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
  • Wai Yip Chau, MD.
  • Lisa Dobruskin, MD, co-medical director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at UMCP.

All three surgeons perform procedures such as gastric bypass, LAP-BAND, sleeve gastrectomy and revisional surgery.

4. Patients of the new center may be referred to the Weight Management Program, a Princeton Medicine offering under the medical direction Rameck R. Hunt, MD, a board-certified internist and specialist in metabolic medicine.

5. Individuals entering the program begin with a physical exam and blood tests to evaluate their health and identify any related health issues, such as diabetes. Each patient receives an individualized treatment plan that may include a combination of counseling and behavioral modification, consultation with a dietician, exercise sessions with a personal trainer and medical management of obesity-related conditions.
