Dr. Wang received the payments from a variety of medical device companies, including Medtronic, DePuy and FzioMed, while investigating the use of their products from 2004-2007. The payments included royalties on products developed by Dr. Wang as well as speaking and consulting fees.
Records regarding Dr. Wang’s payments were obtained by congressional investigators, who sent a letter to UCLA’s chancellor regarding the failed disclosure.
According to the report, Dr. Wang indicated he received less than $500 in payment from Medtronic in 2007, but records show that Medtronic paid $14,600 to Dr. Wang for a single week-long engagement in January of that year.
