One such company is Dallas-based Ram Surgical, which Adrian Davis launched in 2000. He was selling medical equipment, which is only replaced every few years, and decided to sell disposable items, such as thermometers, stethoscopes, pouches and kits. These products are replaced rapidly and are easier for buyers to evaluate. They also allow Ram Surgical to compete with larger companies on price and service.
Mr. Davis landed a big deal with Dallas-based Methodist Health System in 2005, and Mr. Davis estimates the company will do $3 million in sales in 2012.
