Surgery Centers Urged to Submit Comments to Help Delay Quality Reporting Requirement

The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association is urging ASCs to submit comments to CMS to help efforts to delay the required data submission included in the CMS proposal for a mandatory ASC quality reporting program, according to a news release from ASCA.

The proposal would require ASCs to submit quality data beginning Jan. 1, 2012. ASCA hopes to delay the proposal to “allow for more time for ASCs to prepare for this new program,” according to the release.

ASCA has prepared a template letter ASCs can use in making this request. It is available by clicking here (doc).

Once the letter is customized, ASCs should submit the letter by visiting this website. Then, do the following:

  • Under “1. Enter Information”, enter the appropriate center information in the required fields.
  • Under “2. Type Comment”, enter the statement “Please see the attached comment letter.”
  • Under “3. Upload File(s)”, select “Choose File” and identify the file on your computer that has your center-specific letter to CMS for upload.
  • To submit your comments, click on the orange “Submit” button.

Your letter must be submitted to this website no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30.

If you have any questions, please contact Morgan Hanson at ASCA at mhanson@ascassociation.org.
