St. John’s Riverside Hospital’s sterile technician receives Decontaminator of the Year award — 3 notes

Patricia Pabon, a certified registered central sterile technician at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers, N.Y., was awarded the Anne Cofiell Decontaminator of the Year award at the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management conference in San Antonio, Texas.

Here are three notes:

1. Ms. Pabon has spent the last five years working in the sterile processing field.

2. The award, sponsored by Fraser, Mich.-based Healthmark Industries and given out annually by IAHCSMM, recognizes an individual who demonstrates exceptional understanding of the importance of decontamination to achieve proper reprocessing of medical devices. The winner receives $1,000 toward expenses to attend the annual IAHCSMM conference and also receives a commemorative plaque.

3. Anne Cofiell, CRCST, FCS, was an active member of IAHCSMM until her retirement in 2006. She was the IAHCSMM representative to the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation where she chaired numerous working groups.
