Sen. John Cornyn pushes back against $1.9B Zika emergency fund — 3 notes

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) rejected President Obama’s $1.9 billion funding request for the Zika virus on the Senate floor on April 28, according to The Hill.

Here are three notes:

1. Sen. Cornyn opposed any new funding outside of the regular appropriations process.

2. Last week, Appropriations Committee Chairman Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) said a short-term funding bill would reach the floor in the near future.

3. The bill package was being negotiated by health appropriations leaders Sens. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.) but talks have gone cold.
