Sony and Panasonic have already shown interest in Olympus. Samsung does not want the company’s loss-making camera business but is interested in medical devices, such as the company’s gastrointestinal endoscopes.

In October, the company fired chief executive Michael Woodford, who went public about the company’s accounting practices. The company was found to have hidden losses from investors for 13 years.
