Recycled Pacemakers Successfully Implanted in India

Researchers from the University of Texas Health Science Center proved that used pacemakers could be refurbished and implanted in patients who cannot afford a new device. Their research has been put in to practice, and use pacemakers were sent from funeral home in the US to India, where they were successfully implanted, said a MassDevice report.

In total, 53 recycled pacemakers were implanted, and none of the patients experienced problems — such as device failure or infection — after nearly two years.
