Partnership for Health IT Patient Safety to release safe copy and paste practices: 3 insights

The Partnership for Health IT Patient Safety will issue recommendations for safely using copy and paste functions at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society meeting in Las Vegas, according to HealthCareBusiness.

1. Founded in 2013, the partnership is a collaboration between healthcare providers, health information developers, academic researchers, patient safety organizations, liability insurers and professional societies.

2. The National Patient Safety Foundation President and CEO, Tejal Gandhi, MD, headed the copy and paste team, leading 40 team members.

3. The group recommends stakeholders:

• Offer a mechanism for copy and paste material, so it’s easily identified
• Make sure the provenance of copy and paste material is identifiable
• Train staff in safe use of copy and paste
