The system –– an alternative to fingerprints, which many people dislike –– is designed to reduce medical errors as well as minimize paperwork, shorten wait times and eliminate identify theft.

The new technology, introduced in July, reads vein patterns. The scanner then immediately pulls up the patient’s medical record.
