Number of Orthopedic Surgeries to Reach 6.6M by 2020

There were approximately 5.3 million orthopedic surgeries in 2010, and that number is expected to grow to 6.6 million by 2020, according to a Datamonitor report.

The increase in surgeries will correspond with the growth in the aging population who will require orthopedic surgeries. The data estimates there will be 106,900 surgeries in patients under the age of 15, 579,300 in patients between 15 and 44 years old, more than 44 million in patients between 45 and 64 years old and 3 million surgeries among patients older than 65.
