Nebraska healthcare providers use grant to combat infections — 5 things to know

The University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine, its hospital partner, in conjunction with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, established a center aimed at fighting infections in healthcare facilities, according to WOWT News.

Here are five things to know:

1. The University of Nebraska Medical Center, Nebraska Medicine and DHHS established the center with a $2.4 million, three-year contract.

2. The CDC awarded the money for the center, and the money was channeled through the DDS. DDS contracted with the medical center in the effort to fight HAIs.

3. Through the contract, the faculties established the Nebraska Infection Control Assessment and Promotion Program at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine in Omaha.

4. The center will work with healthcare facilities across Nebraska to employ current infection prevention guidelines and tools.

5. The team will also evaluate the status of existing capacities and policies, provider training and the ability to detect and control infectious disease outbreaks.
