Healthcare startup MPIRICA Health is launching more than one million outpatient quality scores.

Here are five insights:

1. The codes will cover nearly 1,000 surgeries.

2. This is the first time a company has launched any objective surgeon and hospital scoring for outpatient procedures.

3. The score is a three-digit number based on four years of individual provider outcomes for a specific procedure.

4. Prior to the MPIRICA Quality Score, patients did not have an objective way to select an outpatient provider based on quality.
