Move to Outpatient Settings Fueling Sales of Flexible Endoscopes

U.S. sales for flexible endoscopes will grow by 5 percent a year from 2010-2017, propelled by a growing preference for outpatient surgery and increased coverage of colorectal screenings, according to a news release by Reportlinker.

Flexible videoscopes are the fastest growing segment in the flexible endoscopy sector, driven by increasing use of colonoscopy for colorectal cancer screening. Olympus Medical Systems Corp. leads the market, with 67 percent of global sales in 2010, followed by Fujifilm and Hoya.

 

U.S. sales of flexible endoscopes, valued at $1 billion, accounted for 44 percent of the global market in 2010.
