Microring Device Could Aid in Future Optical Technologies

Researchers at Purdue University and the National Institute of Standards and Technology created a small device that converts continuous laser light into numerous ultrashort pulses, said a university news release.

The device is small enough to fit on a computer chip — measuring only 80 micrometers, or the width of a human hair — and could be used to aid advanced sensors, communications systems and laboratory instruments.
