InSightec: The State of Non-Invasive Surgery with MR-Guided Focused Ultrasound

Yoav Medan, MD, vice president and chief systems architect at InSightec, presented the company’s MR guided focused ultrasound at the 2011 TEDMED conference, according to a MedGadget report.

The technology allows for the destruction of tumors without surgery or radiation, as well as the treatment of uterine fibroids. More than 7,000 patients have been treated this way for uterine fibroids. The less invasive the procedure, the easier the recovery.

“Beyond its potential to treat disease or relieve symptoms of disease, patients have provided testimony that focused ultrasound offers them and their families something almost as important: improved quality of life,” Dr. Medan said. “It has a transformative impact.”
