Here are five observations:

1. Imprivata PatientSecure is a patient identification solution.

2. It uses palm vein biometrics to link patients to their medical records in the EHR.

3. The solution scans a hand to capture a unique palm vein pattern of a patient.

4. The PatientSecure solution, acquired from HT Systems of Tampa, has identified more than 22 million patients across more than 350 hospitals and thousands of clinics.

5. Integrated with healthcare information systems, the solution improves patient safety, eliminates duplicate medical records, drives revenue cycle efficiency and protects against identity theft.

“Patient misidentification is fast becoming one of the biggest challenges facing care delivery organizations as they grapple with the growing need to combat increased attempts at identity theft and insurance fraud while also trying to reduce duplicate medical records and patient identification mistakes,” said David Wiener, general manager of Imprivata PatientSecure Products Group.
