Illinois Nurse Assistant Pleads Guilty to Medicaid Fraud

April Santiago of Fairfield, Ill., a certified nurse assistant in a physician’s office in Norris City, Ill., has pleaded guilty to Medicaid fraud and was sentenced to two years’ probation and ordered to pay restitution, according to a report by the Evansville Courier & Press.

Ms. Santiago admitted she referred individuals to the office of Hung Nguyen, MD, asking them to complain of medical conditions they did not have in order to obtain painkillers, which they then sold to Ms. Santiago.

Dr. Nguyen’s medical license is currently on probation for failure to properly supervise.
