Genetically Engineered Spider Silk Could Be Used to Treat Wounds, Create Artificial Tendons

A Utah State University researcher has genetically engineered spider silk that can be used to heal wounds and make artificial tendons and ligaments, according to a Med City News report.

According to the report, the team weaved a lattice of human skin cells and spider silk that could stop bullets when fired at reduced speeds. The researcher said the material could be used in the future to help surgeons repair large wounds or burns.
