David Matthew Kwiatkowski, a traveling technician who worked at Exeter Hospital, currently faces federal drug charges for allegedly injecting himself with the anesthetic fentanyl and refilling the syringes with saline before administering the injections to patients. So far, dozens of Exeter patients have tested positive for hepatitis C and hospitals in several other states are working with state health officials to test patients.

Federal investigators cited Exeter Hospital for infection control deficiencies following the outbreak in early August.

The approximately 500 employees are being asked to undergo testing because they worked in specific units during specific times that may pose a greater risk of exposure.
