Drs. Mark Graber, Hardeep Singh call for action against misdiagnosing: 4 observations

Researchers from RTI International in Chicago, the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston, call for action against misdiagnosis, according to Newswise.

Here are four observations:

1. Mark Graber, MD, a senior fellow at RTI International, and Hardeep Singh, MD, of Baylor and DeBakey VA, wrote an opinion piece on the need for collaborative action in reducing misdiagnoses. The New England Journal of Medicine published the piece.

2. Dr. Graber served as a committee member on the Institute of Medicine’s “Improving Diagnosis in Health Care” report.

3. Diagnostic errors include overlooked opportunities for diagnoses, wrong diagnoses or delayed diagnoses.

4. Dr. Graber and Dr. Singh recommend medical professionals create resources to help healthcare organizations pinpoint and measure diagnostic missteps.
