“Whether or not we move forward with a deal comes down to the attributes of the center – the tightness of the partnership, how well the physicians work together and high-quality clinical operations,” he said.
He added that SCA is particularly interested in ASCs that specialize in orthopedics, ENT, GI and ophthalmology, which tend to be lucrative service lines for surgery centers.
SCA continues to expand its specialty surgical services, having recently entered into a joint venture agreement with Mississippi Surgical Center in Jackson to partner in the operation of the center.
Mr. Clark was named CDO of SCA in June 2008, after serving as SCA’s chief operating officer since July 2007. He previously served as president and CEO of HealthMark Partners, an owner, operator and developer of ASCs and specialty hospitals. From March 1988 to Aug. 1999, he held various senior management roles, including CEO of Response Oncology, a provider of cancer services.
