Commenting on his experience with Mr. Taylor and Practice Partners, Mr. Moore said, “Our physician owners could not be more pleased with the service level. The patient care, the efficiencies, the quality measures and the outstanding operational results have exceeded the expectations for each of our surgeons,” he said. “All are credited to Mr. Taylor, Practice Partners and the staff they lead to provide these results.”
An expert on running an efficient and financially viable ASC, Mr. Taylor recently shared his best practices for recruiting physician partners to an ASC. He recommended that surgery centers let new partners take a test run of the center to see if they are comfortable. He also advised looking for partners with a high volume of ASC-appropriate cases, compatibility with your existing staff and equipment needs you can fulfill.
Once you have decided on a partner, he said your number one priority should be welcoming them to your surgery center as an equal. “You should always be positive to the new kids on the block,” Mr. Taylor says. “Don’t have them wind up with the crummiest OR. Don’t give them staff who won’t be compatible.”
Mr. Taylor is the founder and developer of Practice Partners’ business concept and has 25 years of experience in healthcare delivery, management and physician relations. Prior to founding Practice Partners, he served as president and COO of the largest provider of ASC services in the country. He has worked successfully with physicians in different business models in healthcare settings ranging from acute care to diagnostics, physical rehabilitation and outpatient surgery centers.
Mr. Taylor also serves as an adjunct professor of healthcare at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
