EHRs linked to 3 percent cost savings in outpatient setting.
In recent study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, researchers found that the use of electronic health records can reduce costs by 3 percent in the ambulatory care setting. The study notes that there is a potential for more cost savings as EHR use becomes optimized.

CMS, PAHCOM to host ICD-10 webinars and training sessions.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Professional Association of Health Care Office Management have teamed up to provide webinars and in-person training for ICD-10 preparation. The webinars will help revenue cycle personnel learn how to navigate the new code set and offer tools and resources to help prepare for the implementation deadline.

AAAHC partners with software companies to offer surgery centers accreditation tools.
The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care has announced that its accreditation standards are now licensed to be used in software tools from Basha and PowerDMS. Through these software tools, surgery center leaders will be able to store information related to AAAHC standards, search for standards by keyword and check that their centers are up-to-date on compliance requirements and federal and state regulations.

Medisurg launches fair market value business for surgery centers.
Medisurg, a supply chain company, has launched a fair market value business for surgery centers, clinics and private practices. The business is designed to provide equipment owners and purchasers the true value of their equipment.

Banner Health acquires full ownership of Union Hills Surgery Center.
Banner Health is currently in the process of acquiring full ownership of the Union Hills Surgery Center in Glendale, Ariz. The surgery center will be renamed the Banner Del E. Webb Surgery Center and function as the Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center’s outpatient surgery department.

Harrison Street Real Estate acquires surgery center in Minnesota.
Chicago-based Harrison Street Real Estate has acquired the WestHealth Campus in Plymouth, Minn., for $58 million. The health campus includes a surgery center, emergency department, breast center, imaging services, pharmacy and several clinics.

Surgery Center at Hamilton founder joins Aethlon Medical board of directors.
Chetan S. Shah, MD, founder of the Surgery Center at Hamilton, has joined the board of directors of Aethlon Medical, a therapeutic filtration medical device company. Dr. Shah is an otolaryngologist.
