5 things to know about The Joint Commission’s 1st Ambulatory Care Accreditation Program Director

Here are five things to know:

1. Mr. Moen became the first director of the Ambulatory Care Accreditation Program in 1977. The Joint Commission started the program for ambulatory health care centers in 1975.

2. He was originally hired as a consultant to help develop standards for mental healthcare centers in 1975 and then moved to the accreditation program two years later.

3. Since the program began, there was a paradigm shift from focusing on patient safety and physical facilities to quality improvement looking at patient care.

4. There is now a bigger emphasis on staff working in the facilities, including physicians, nurses and others.

5. Mr. Moen’s proudest moments was launching the surveys for the Ambulatory Care program.
