2. The scientists didn’t follow the traditional method of virus discovery, which involves developing a culture of the virus’s host and finding viruses associated with it.
3. Instead, the researchers secluded the virus’s genetic material and sequenced it. With the sequenced information, the researchers developed an idea of the virus in its entirety. This led them to the virus’s host.
4. The National Science Foundation and Dimensions in Biodiversity funded the research.
