The University of Kansas Hospital chooses Omnicell to improve patient safety: 5 points

Kansas City-based The University of Kansas Hospital chose Omnicell’s medication management automation and software.

Here are five points:

1. The hospital will install the software in the summer of 2016.

2. The University of Kansas will use Omnicell’s central pharmacy automation, medication management and analytics solutions.

3. The software is designed to enhance workflow via interoperability with the Epic electronic health record system. The technology will also aid inventory management and increase patient safety.   

4. The hospital evaluated Omnicell’s technology for four months, viewing demonstrations and speaking with users.

5. “Omnicell offers us the level of interoperability with our EHR that would allow our nurses to queue up medications anywhere, enabling them to spend more time on direct patient care activities,” said Christopher Bell, PharmD, pharmacy assistant director at the University of Kansas Hospital.
