1. Fred Villanueva died on Aug. 7 from the virus after being sick for nearly a month.
2. Mr. Villanueva’s death is the first confirmed death from West Nile in San Bernardino County this year.
3. Eight confirmed cases of West Nile were reported in San Bernardino County in 2014. None of the confirmed cases resulted in any deaths.
4. California has 36 reported cases of West Nile so far this year, surpassing the state’s five-year average of 23 cases.
