1. Small facilities with limited resources and patient volumes, such as outpatient surgery centers, could benefit from replacing reusable metal devices with Xenco Medical’s single-use, composite-polymer kits, according to Founder Jason Haider.

2. The medical devices are grouped in sterile packaging according to size and use in procedures, such as cervical and lumbar spine surgeries.

3. Disposal of the single-use instruments could range from 9 cents to 71 cents, Mr. Haider estimated, compared to nearly $1,000 for reusable products that require 3.5 hours of sterilization per surgery case.

4. In response to concerns about the sustainability of single-use devices, Mr. Haider said reusable devices use hundreds of gallons of water for steam sterilization cycles and are ecologically costly to manufacture.
