Here’s what you should know:
1. In 2010, Naperville, Ill.-based Edward Hospital posted a video called “da Vinci Surgical System: Surgery on a grape,” which shows the robot stitching a grape back together.
2. Melbourne, Australia-based Peter MacCallum Cancer Center also posted photos of the robot performing surgery on a grape in May 2018 to illustrate the robot’s precision.
3. Tweets and internet memes about the surgery began spreading across the internet around Nov. 23.
4. The robot costs around $2 million and earned FDA approval in 2000. There are more than 2,000 da Vinci units in the U.S. It’s unclear how many surgeries have been performed on grapes.
