A new case report, published in Psychiatric Annals, has found that stellate ganglion block, an anesthetic typically used in pain management, can help reduce the severity of post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms.
Researchers found that there was a 43.6 percent reduction in PTSD severity after one month of stellate ganglion block treatment. After a second month of the treatment, PTSD severity decreased by 57.7 percent. After a year of the treatment, one patient had stopped drinking alcohol, continued to have sustained relief from PTSD, had improved memory function and had become gainfully employed.
